Jim Byrd

Jim was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska.  He attended college at Anchorage Community College (now the University of Alaska, Anchorage) where he received his Associate of Science degree in Medical Technology.  He has been licensed in Florida State as a Medical Laboratory Technician and is a current member with the ASCP professional organization.  Jim did his MLT training at Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital.

Jim spent a year working at the Tallahassee Community Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida.  He then worked for two years in the laboratory of a two physician clinic.  For the past 17 years Jim as been working as a MLT at Valley Hospital in Palmer, Alaska.  In February 2005 Jim accepted a full time position at DGH.  He and his wife Mary are relocating to the Dayton area to be near family and friends who reside in Walla Walla.

In his free time Jim enjoys golfing, archery, and gardening.  Jim has said that he likes golf just for fun, but some day hopes to be much better - PGA??  He has two grown children, Nathan and Jessica, who will remain in Alaska.  The family dog Dolly, however, will be moving to the area with Jim and Mary.

An interesting fact about Jim is that he experienced the 1964 Alaskan earthquake.

So if you're passing by take the time to welcome Jim to Dayton - we are all very happy he is here.  If you see him on the golf course, introduce yourself and offer to show him the finer details of that perfect swing or give him a pointer on the great places to fish!
