Local Physician Achieves Board Certification

John Rogers, MD has been successfully recertified by the American Board of Family Medicine, the organization announced recently. Board certification confers a standard of excellence in knowledge and practice to physicians who not only certify via the examination process but who also work diligently on the maintenance of these skills during the seven-year cycle between examinations.

Dr. Rogers practices at the Waitsburg Clinic and covers the emergency room at Dayton General Hospital. He began practicing locally as a part-time physician in 1992. He has worked with the Blue Mountain Medical Group in Walla Walla.

Rogers’ experience includes a family practice residency in Cheyenne, WY, a year of surgical residency at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland and from 1976 to 1985 he practiced in Africa.

Rogers graduated from Walla Walla College and medical school from Loma Linda University in California.

To achieve recertification, a family practice physician must verify the completion of 300 hours of acceptable continuing medical education over the past six years; possess a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States; and successfully complete a one-day, written examination of cognitive knowledge and problem-solving abilities. This examination covers the disciplines of the specialty including adult medicine, care of newborns, infants, children and adolescents; human behavior and mental health; and care of the surgical patient.
