DAYTON - Columbia County Public Hospital District board members discussed preparations under way for dermatologist Dr. Eileen Smith, who will open a private practice in Dayton on Jan. 1.
Smith is leaving Walla Walla Clinic, where she presently practices, and will open an office in the building previously occupied by Dr. Michael Luce. It is adjacent to Dayton General Hospital. The district owns the building.
Smith is one of only four dermatologists in Southeast Washington, according to CEO Bruce Grimshaw.
``It's huge for us. We see this as a good thing,' he said. ``It's going to help drive some more business into our labs. We will be helping out with billing services and supplies,' Grimshaw said.
The district is preparing the building and making appointments for Smith, Grimshaw said.
In another matter, Grimshaw reported Thursday that Dayton was in fourth place out of 144 communities participating the Governor's Community Health Bowl walking challenge.
