A Mississippi native who moved to the Pacific Northwest where she hopes to make a difference in her patient’s lives is the Waitsburg Clinic’s new nurse practitioner. The newest staff member was announced by Bruce Grimshaw, CEO of the Columbia County Health System.

Sarah Scarborough will start September 12, coming to Waitsburg to serve full time at the Clinic and to work with other health care professionals in the emergency room at Dayton General Hospital. Scarborough previously worked in cardiology with Heart Clinics Northwest at St. Mary Medical Center, where she had been employed since November, 2002.

The 29-year-old holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters of Science degree in nursing from the University of Mobile in Alabama. She is licensed in Mississippi, Washington and Oregon, and will work under John Rogers, M.D.

She worked in nursing for eight years in Mississippi before coming to Walla Walla in 2002, two years of experience in primary care as a nurse practitioner and six as a registered nurse.

She will primarily offer family practice, with an interest in women’s health, including pap smears, annual examinations, and health care maintenance. She will also handle acute care visits: “Anything your family practice physician offers,” she said.

“I like the nice-size patient population where you get time to work with the patients,” Scarborough said. She is looking forward to the good practice environment and working with Dr. Rogers.

She was born and raised in Gulfport, Miss., and attended local schools. Since moving to Walla Walla, she has enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, camping, backpacking and fishing. “It’s wonderful here,” she said.

At present she lives in Walla Walla with her 12-year-old daughter Savanah.
